Community Impact Guide
To provide a transparent and simplified description of potential project effects, the Department of Water Resources (DWR) has put together a guide that offers a high-level summary of changes that communities could see with links to additional information.
Key Questions Addressed in the Guide:
Will I be able to drive my kids to school, or drive to work, without a lot of extra travel time?
During construction, additional project vehicles will be on nearby roads, but traffic impacts will be minimal. Routine travel times, school commutes, and emergency services should not be affected.
See page 3 of the full guide for more details.
Will I be able to fish and boat in the Delta?
Water levels and flows in the Delta are expected to remain similar to today, and waterways will remain open. Fishing and boating impacts will be minimal, with construction mostly on the riverbank and measures in place to protect fish.
See page 4 of the full guide for more details.
Will agricultural land be disturbed, or farm work disrupted?
Construction will occur mostly near intake sites and along levees, limiting impacts on farmland. Some minor temporary disruptions may occur, but mitigation measures will minimize effects on farming operations.
See page 5 of the full guide for more details.
Will I hear construction noise from my house or while out and about in the Delta?
Noise may be noticeable near construction sites, but mitigation measures such as equipment placement and timing will reduce impacts on residents and recreational areas.
See page 6 of the full guide for more details.
Will I be able to enjoy my typical outdoor activities? What about people sensitive to poor air quality?
Most outdoor activities can continue normally. Dust and air quality impacts will be minimized with standard controls, protecting sensitive populations.
See page 6 of the full guide for more details.
Will my well water level and quality be maintained?
Groundwater levels and water quality will be monitored during construction to prevent impacts, with mitigation measures ready if issues arise.
See page 7 of the full guide for more details.
Will I be able to maintain my small business, especially if I depend on tourists or the recreation community?
Access for local businesses and recreation will be maintained, and DWR will coordinate with owners to minimize disruption during construction.
See page 8 of the full guide for more details.
Will the visual character of the Delta be changed by the project?
Some temporary visual changes may occur near construction sites, but project design and mitigation will preserve the long-term visual character of the Delta.
See page 8 of the full guide for more details.
Will there be fewer fish or birds and wildlife?
Measures such as fish screens, careful site placement, and environmental monitoring will protect wildlife. Temporary effects may occur, but long-term impacts are expected to be minimal.
See page 9 of the full guide for more details.
Is DWR’s levee investment program going to be affected by the Delta Conveyance Project?
The project complements ongoing levee investments and is not expected to interfere with flood protection programs.
See page 9 of the full guide for more details.
How will the town of Hood be affected?
Potential impacts to Hood are limited and managed through mitigation measures to reduce disruption for residents and businesses.
See page 10 of the full guide for more details.
